Elite Field Bunched at the Top After Opening Round of 99th LNGA Amateur Championship

Columbus, Ind.  — An elite field is tightly packed after the opening round of the 99th Ladies National Golf Association Amateur Championship, with just two strokes separating the leaders from a deep group of contenders at Harrison Lake Country Club.

Scarlett Schremmer (University of Miami) and Sara Im (Vanderbilt University) share the overnight lead after each posted outstanding 4-under-par 67s on Monday. Just two shots back at 2-under-par 69 are Isabella Goyette, Ana Murcia, and Honorine Nobuta Ferry, setting the stage for what promises to be a highly competitive finish to the championship. 

Harrison Lake Country Club drew praise from players for its pristine championship condition and challenging green complexes. While scoring opportunities were available throughout the round, players quickly learned that precision on the putting surfaces and a deft touch around the greens were essential to posting a low number. Those who successfully managed the course from tee to green found themselves atop a tightly packed leaderboard.

One of the day's defining moments belonged to Honorine Nobuta Ferry, who made her first tournament hole-in-one on the par-3 eighth hole. This was the second hole in one of the day on hole eight, with Eden Lohrbach making the ace earlier in the day. Honorine’s hole in one proved to be a pivotal shot that helped propel her to a 2-under-par 69 and helped her tie for third overall and claim the opening-round lead in the Junior Medalist competition. 

In the Howell Team Competition, the  University of Tennessee  holds the opening-round lead with a team score of  143 , followed by High Point University at 145. Indiana University and Kent State University are tied for third at 146, while Furman University and Texas Christian University round out the top five at 147. 

The Junior Medalist race is equally competitive, with Honorine Nobuta Ferry leading after her opening-round 69. Alicia Bellendir sits second at 71, while Sehee Sim is third at 72. Indiana natives Ava Bunker and Taylor Snively are tied for fourth with world number 32, Arianna Lau after posting opening rounds of 73.
